Video transcript

Wedding invitation timing in the UK depends on save-the-dates, ceremony rules and reply deadlines.

In the UK, most couples send save-the-dates six to twelve months ahead. The full invitation goes out about three to four months before the day.

Church banns are read on three Sundays and must fall within three months of the day. Register office notice is normally given at least four weeks before the ceremony.

The save-the-date simply holds the date, the town and a promise of details. The invitation confirms the venue, timings, dress code, gift list and reply date.

Peak-season dates, bank holiday weekends and school holidays pull guests in many directions. For a destination wedding, send save-the-dates nine to twelve months ahead. Send those invitations four to six months before you fly.

Set your RSVP deadline about four weeks before the wedding. That gives you room to chase replies before the venue needs numbers.
